Succulent

Forbidden, I see you from afar
Crafted by heaven and kissed by creation
“Do not eat of the tree”
But what of the other gifts in the garden?
Can I not avail myself?

See the roots,
Reaching down into the world below
Pulling life inside
Nourishing earth granting strength

See the trunk
Supple and strong
Allure inherent in the form
A simple sway in all the storms of life

See the fruit
The flesh
Soft enough to satisfy
Beneath the touch of lips
Firm enough
To urge a strong bite into

Parched, grant me drink
Scorched, grant me shade
Dead, take me in to give you life
Delight in my yearning, absolute

Take me, that I may know you inside and out
